Winter Break Lessons...Finally!

Howdy! We decided to keep a jam-packed week last week so I'm just now able to start scheduling lessons for the break. There are plenty of high schoolers and middle schoolers needing makeup and extra lessons that I'll be available for multiple days of lessons. These lessons are good for middle schoolers to do four-mallet work, look at solos and ensembles, and shake the rust off. High schoolers can get started on solos or start narrowing down the choices, and make sure you understand your ensemble music.

I'm available for 30- and 60-minute slots, and feel free to take multiple days if you want.

KMS/ISMS District Audition Prep Session

With District Auditions approaching next weekend I've had a few inquiries about doing a help session like I held last year. If your child is interested in this I will hold a session this Wednesday October 12 at ISMS from 6:00 to 7:00. If you're able, I'm only asking for a small fee of $5 if your student wishes to attend. This is open to all KMS and ISMS students this year, not just my lesson students. I will also do another session the week before Region.

Please RSVP via email if your child wishes to attend. If you have any questions, or if your child may need a ride with someone, please let me know.

We're almost there! This week is very different. I'm going to be at KHS most days. Since my wife is back to work for ISMS bands, it's daddy-daughter days on M/Th/Fr so I can only teach those evenings. For Tuesday and Wednesday I'll be at KHS for JV students and Varsity pit in the mornings, then Varsity battery students during lunchtime and the afternoon. I am aware that Wednesday JV has the day off, as well as 9th graders have Fish Camp, so I'll try to get all those students on Tuesday.

Hello! I will be available for three days this week. We are making a last-gasp trip to San Antonio before band stuff starts up for my wife next week, and we'll be leaving on Thursday morning. Hopefully we can finally get my daughter to eat some barbacoa...

For high schoolers, it's the last push before drum camp starts Wednesday; try to get a lesson in on Monday or Tuesday. For middle schoolers, I'd like to schedule as many of you as possible on Tuesday at KMS or Wednesday at ISMS.

Update 7/27 3:45pm: I'm trying to get as many students' requests in as possible. I've had multiple families ask for the same time frames, so we may be 30 minutes to an hour different than what you requested. Let me know if this doesn't work so I can try to do as much Jedi Scheduling as I can.

Hello! I'll be available all five days again this week since I still have to catch up from our vacation. I'll be at three campuses again this week to help with space and time.

Just a reminder about payment: I'm asking for four lessons to be paid in advance. If you've paid for more than two lessons this month you're ok. Otherwise I'd like for you to pay the difference between what has already been paid and the four lessons. This helps with planning for the month. Please ask me if there are any questions or concerns. I'm making myself available for more days to help with any missed lessons for students.

Just a heads-up for KMS and ISMS parents: Everyone should be working on the 2- and 3-note Permutations Rhythm Sheets. Most Wind Ensemble students have been handed a solo if they've successfully played the Rhythm Sheets for me. This solo is an advanced rudimental solo but nothing in there is new. I'm trying to challenge them to achieve a higher level than I've expected in the past but I feel this group can handle it. Tell them to keep working, it's helping! And if your child hasn't received this solo yet, they know why: Get to work on the Rhythm Sheets!

Hot Week Lessons 6/30-7/3

Howdy!  I hope everyone is enjoying the World Cup and preparing to support our USA squad as they take on the Belgians on Tuesday. Please refrain from enjoying waffles until then.

For this coming week I am only able to guarantee entry into Indian Springs MS for lessons this week, except for Tuesday morning at KHS. This is the annual KISD lockdown week and I've made arrangements to be able to get into ISMS. There is a drumset and plenty of percussion equipment there for us to use so there should be no issues for space or instruments. This also means that there my not be any AC on at these campuses. It's not too bad in there but I will bring a fan for us to keep cool if necessary. I'd suggest wearing cool clothing to help just in case.

If I have your child down for a slot that does not work, please let me know ASAP so I can get things worked out.

Lastly, this is the first lesson of the month/cycle for most students. I'm asking families to pay for four weeks (not months!) of lessons in advance from now on, even if your child will be away for one week. That brings the total to either $120, $100, or $68 depending on the length of lessons. If there are any questions, please ask me before our lesson time to get things worked out, preferably via email or text the day before.

Hello! I'm changing things up a bit this week because there are many families asking me if we can meet late afternoon or evening once this week to help out with camps, classes, etc. I will be teaching one evening this week to help with those families. I'm trying to be consistent with most requests, so if any slots here no longer work for you this week PLEASE let me know so I can update this week's schedule. I left a lot of slots empty because the week is pretty different from last week, so you'll need to respond with some preferred times if any work. If none of my available times do work for you, let me know and I'll try to move things to fit your child in. Also, I will be at KMS on Tuesday. There is a KHS marching band activity that will take up a lot of space so it'll be easier for us to just be at the KMS band hall. This is a great opportunity for incoming KMS 7th graders to get familiar with their future surroundings!

Summer Lessons! Week of 6/9-6/12

Happy Summer! I've been assigned to be your child's lesson teacher for the summer, lucky you!

I know everyone has been enjoying this first weekend of summer, and you're probably not quite ready to get the little ones out of the house just yet, right?  Well, you can give them a break from Doritos fingers and XBox cramps each week with lessons!

This summer will be similar to last year, in that I'll post my availability each weekend and you let me know what time works for you. Only a few of you have asked for specific days or times, and I'll do my best to honor those requests. Time slots are first-come, first-served. To get a slot, please respond back with your three preferred times if you're not already on the schedule (I'm pre-scheduling a few students by requested times on the lesson forms). For those students already pre-slotted, please find your spot and let me know if that works. This schedule will most likely change as I receive replies but I will let you know if it does change for your student. Also, I am giving scheduling priority to all KHS students first, then students who took lessons from me during the year, and then to everyone else. This includes length of lessons.

There are three lengths/costs of lessons this summer: 30 minutes for $17, 45 minutes for $25, and 60 minutes OR two 30 minutes for $30. The longer or more often each week we meet, the more you save! I ask that we pay for three weeks in advance this month to cover the rest of June. So, most families would pay either $51, $75, or $90 for June's lessons. If payment is an issue, please let me know as soon as possible so we can make arrangements.

For this week I will be available Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, all at KHS. Next week is my annual Single Dad Week because my wife will be teaching at SFASU for band camps. I'll only be available Tuesday and Wednesday that week, unless I can find some arrangement for my daughter for another day, plus it's the first week of the World Cup so I need to keep our USA squad's spirits high with my cheering.  I'll keep everyone posted!
